SWAT – Special Weapons & Tactics

TACTICAL PROGRAM RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Operational Studies pursues an aggressive tactical operations studies program. These studies range from first-hand experience, to accompanying tactical teams on actual operations, to studying de-briefs of both domestic and international terrorist and hostage rescue incidents.

OS also makes an effort to stay current with the activities and methodologies of various criminal and terrorist groups through a number of official and open-source information and intelligence venues. This material is then analyzed, evaluated, and if relevant, incorporated into OS lectures and STTU training.

Agencies lacking a formal tactical weapons or raid program, or looking for professional outside assistance, should seriously consider the value and cost effectiveness of OS services and STTU programs. Advantages include:

EQUIPMENT TEST & EVALUATION (T&E) PROGRAM

Since most aspects of modern tactical operations are both equipment intensive and equipment dependent, it is critical that only the best and most reliable equipment end up in the hands of operators out on the sharp end of any conflict.

For the past two decades STTU and OS staff have maintained a program of informal field test & evaluation of a wide variety of tactical products. Most T&E work is performed during reality-based training under realistic environmental conditions.

Manufacturers have an open invitation to submit products that they believe to have application to the military special operations or LE tactical communities. Through this program, our staff and students get first hand experience with a variety of new products, and in turn, the manufacturer will get real-world testing, along with a “no punches pulled” evaluation of their product by operators whose lives may one day depend on the quality of materials and design.

Products currently under review include Wilson Combat handguns, Robar sniper rifles, McMillan stocks, Leupold tactical scopes, Badger Ordnance rails and scope rings, Federal, Black Hills and HSM ammunition, TEA communications headsets, Eagle, Diamondback and Black Hawk nylon products, Ballisticard Systems, DS Welding steel targets, etc…
